ASUS National Taiwan University R&D Center Established a New Chapter of Industry-University Alliance

Today, ASUS Chairman Jonney Shih and National Taiwan University President Chung-Min Kuan co-chaired the unveiling ceremony of the ASUS and National Taiwan University Joint R&D Center. Integrating the R&D energy of industry and academia and deepening the development of advanced technologies, this venture aims to connect outstanding talents from industry and academia, and is expected to result in investments of more than NT$100 million in research and development. The Center will focus on fields such as advanced electromagnetics, next-generation computers, the Internet of Things (IoT), and artificial intelligence (AI) in order to newly energize R&D and promote international technological development by connecting resources from industry and academia.

Speaking at the ceremony, Mr. Shih said

ASUS is a global leading brand in the motherboard and computer fields. ASUS is actively expanding innovative technologies such as artificial intelligence and AIoT, answering the industrial trend of accelerating digital transformation. Combining the successful experience of ASUS in technological innovation with the profound academic research and development foundation of National Taiwan University (NTU), the Center will establish a new model for Taiwan's industry-university cooperation, and it marks a new milestone in Taiwan's research and development strength on the international stage.

ASUS encourages all its business units to actively deploy key technologies and expand new business areas through industry-university cooperation or strategic alliances. The ASUS and National Taiwan University Joint R&D Center will integrate academic resources with commercial applications more closely in order to drive industrial development.

Chung-Min Kuan, the President of the National Taiwan University, said

National Taiwan University and ASUS have been working closely together for a long time. The joint establishment of the new R&D Center will bring professors from National Taiwan University together in fields such as the smart Internet of Things. It will help NTU professors and students better understand the current situation and needs of the industry, and it will help the industry side learn more about the academic frontier and fully utilize the abundant R&D energy of National Taiwan University.

ASUS is committed to leading the development of the artificial intelligence and AIoT application fields, combining its hardware strengths and core advantages of big-data analysis, and working with strategic partners to implement technology applications. From the industry-university cooperation with National Taiwan University, ASUS will integrate cross-departmental R&D resources and leverage the research and practical capabilities of seven university departments and the National Taiwan University Hospital. In addition to developing high-end technologies, ASUS will also provide corporate experiences to students, giving back to the academic community and promoting the new generation of R&D talent. The mission of the ASUS National Taiwan University R&D Joint Center is to become Asia's first world-class industry-university research center.

ASUS has invested funds to support the development of the Center, and plans to introduce subsidies from the Forward-looking Technology Industry-University Cooperation Program of the National Science and Technology Council. The total R&D investments in the Center are expected to exceed NT$100 million. The ASUS-NTU Joint R&D Center will prioritize three advanced fields: terminal and edge device technology; networking and multimedia; and data science and smart healthcare. A number of short-, medium- and long-term R&D projects have already been planned. The initiative is expected to promote the exchange and transfer of knowledge and technology between industry and academia, cultivate a new generation of high-level R&D talents, stimulate cross-field key technology energy, inject innovative vitality into the development of the information and communication technology industry–all while increasing the visibility of Taiwan on the global stage.
